First let me start by saying that I adore my husband. This is the man who sat me down last week and said, "I am so in love with you. Even after 12 years together, you are still the one who makes my heart beat faster." and? He totally didn't smack me for asking what he did wrong. He was just being romantic. {apparently one member of our marriage might use that type of talk when she does something silly, like run into a cart corral with the car}
Moving on..
I have learned a few things about men along the way. Want me to share? K.
1- Man often exaggerates. When man says that he spent 1 hour pushing the boys on the swing, woman must subtract 20-24 minutes from this time.
{However, this is a good thing at times. Then? When woman lowballs the amount spent shopping, it all evens out. See?}
2- Men need to be outside, yet inside, yet outside. My man? In college, worked outside, so naturally he wanted a desk job. Gets a desk job. Complains that he needs more physical activity like when he was working outside. Then? When he gets busy outside at night? Complains he needs more inside time to relax.
3- Men do not like to be told that their dreams are well, impractical.
Hubby: "Hey that is a cool table."
me: "Yep. Let's buy it."
Hubby: "Buy it?!? I am man, I can build that table. I just need a few more power tools, a few more bits, a few more something manly and I'd have that built by 2020!"
4- There is always, always time for golf.
5- Again, men do not like to be told their dreams are impractical. My friends and I sit and listen to the men plan these huge trips/excursions/outings/whatever. We say, "umm really? Do you think that is a good idea?" Response? "Why do you have to crush us all the time? Can't we have our dreams?"
6- Man will never learn what is the right answer when you ask a question like, "What shoes should I wear with this? A or B? A or C? B or E?" Then, when they say B, you choose A. This is highly confusing to them.
7- Finally, Men make the best children tickler/wrestlers. No matter how much I offer to wrestle with the boys, they say, "No, Daddy please."
That is all I've learned. Well, all that I will share anyway! You learned anything?

Also, men are always hot!!!
A very insightful list. Men can be so impractical but they don't want to hear about it. So true.
Sheeze, my husband is in construction, has tools and bits and it still takes him until 2020 to build things around our house. :o)
Funny, but true post! #3 is totally my dad and #2 is my hubby! Ha!
That was a great list to start my morning.
I think it's a matter of pride, that they feel they can build or fix anything. And given enough time, well, I guess they could.
you hit it all right on the head. lol.
I thought mine was the only one whos says that he could build it cheaper than if we bought it. It's crazy!!
Men are a gift and a mess all rolled into one. My husband think you can fix anything with duck tape...seriously!
That was funny. Thanks for sharing. I have not been married. But I have been in 3 long relationships. Men are a different breed indeed.
Good list. Men also are much messier in the kitchen. But they try real hard.
Great post!
I love the subtracting time comment. For home renovation or building projects I have learned everything is going to take 4 times what my husband or FIL thinks it will take.
My husband and his hobbies/crazy outlandish/expensive dreams make me laugh. He also tells me not to crush his ideas. I have learned everyone is happier if he gets some of his playtime/play money even if it isn't in the budget.
Congrats to both of you on 11 years of marriage. My husband and I married young (19 and 21 respectively) but both divorced and married each other last year. It seems that a lot of couples that marry young can't make work but kudos to you both!
Are we married to the same man?
Good detective work! We've been married 12 1/2 years and I haven't concluded any of those things. Just that the way to a man's heart is through his tummy. My man likes good cooking!
So true, So true, So true!
Don't forget the ...
Men have learned to perform a task at a substandard level thinking that they will not be asked to perform said task again. ie- laundry, sweeping, etc.
We're about to celebrate 11 years too! <3
Funny...thanks for sharing!
Too funny! Thank you for that...
I think my husband is the same way. He works outside with his job and I think he loves it. He is the best tickler that gets our daughter going.
Well-I haven't learned anything from marriage yet:)---but what I've learned from brothers: man will take credit for your good ideas.
I've learned that they're insatiable! Ugggh! Nuff said! ha ha ha
Now Sara, about that ticket that I got? Hubs was actually the one driving the vehicle, parking the vehicle and will also be the one stuck with the ticket! ha ha ha
LOL Yes. I have also learned their is always time for golf....and golf includes beer and cards after!
After 25 years, I have learned that men are just one more of your kids. They are always sicker than you, always more injured than you, always busier than you, and always more annoying...
HAHAHAHAHAHA, Cammie, that's a good one...Are we married to the same man...BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Yeah, I'm all over the cart corral and timing issues there. And why is it that their "expenses" are never "TOO MUCH" like they claim ours are? Anybody else notice how that one works?
Thanks for the insight;-)
WOW! You just summed up my husband perfectly!
i love the list! it is SO true!
i love the idea of un-exaggerating on amount spent shopping. i'm so gonna try that!
lol. october will be 11 yrs for us. great list. the only thing missing is: when a man is working on a car there is some very strong unseen magnetic force that will bring every man in a 3 mile radius out from their mancaves straight into your garage.
This list is fabulous! I especially like the man-time and using it to average out the grocery shopping time :0 Very sly...
I learned that YOU are my hero!!! :)
congrats on the 11 years! :)
You are right on!!!
HAHAHHA! You crack me up. I know nothing. I learn all about men from you and kristina.
Great post! I have learned not to ask my husband how an outfit/my hair or make-up looks when I want an honest answer because his answer is always, "Yeah, it looks nice." I could put on a burlap sack and he would say that.
I've learned that you always make them think something you want was their idea.
You know...like if you want to have tile on the new grilling/storage/tabletop area on your back porch, you hint around by looking at tile and then ever so gently inserting comments like "boy, this tile really matches the new decking out back." Then when he says, "I think we should tile that new area out back instead of only painting the cinderblock." Then, you look at him like it was the most brilliant idea in the whole world and pat him on the back for coming up with it!
Here is a very nice man lesson. They do NOT see how fat we think we are. They see their beautiful wife and don't want to hear us pick ourselves apart. If we could love our bodies as much as they do all of our self-esteem would shoot through the roof! (Not saying I do this, but have learned through some difficult life situations that it is true.)
LOL, I love your list! SO TRUE! My hubby was supposed to 'make' me an entertainment center for our one year anniversary. It is now almost our two year anniversary and I have yet to see even the wood bought to build it! :) boys will be boys! :)
So true. My hubby looks at tractors and I'm like, "Yes it is a great tractor, but why are you looking at tractors for sale?" He says, "I know I can't buy one now but I just like to look at them okay". OK. :-)
Yes I agree with your list! I think that thank heaven for men that are there for you with a starbucks coffee at work when your day isn't going to well!:( BTW I will continue to post more about Australia this week.
Lol...that is hilarious..and very true! Especially the "I can do this/make this etc". Dan does that all the time...sure he COULD do it, but often I'd rather he not so we can do something!
those are some great things to learn and I totally agree, no one can tickle and rough house like Daddy.
Wow, you have learned a lot in 11 years of marriage! Most women don't have seven on their list after 20 years.
You may be cooking challenged, but you getting the man pegged down!
Now let's see what you learn the next 10 to 15 years.
I've learned if my hubby says he'll be home in an hour....it means TWO at least!! If he's out working at night and he says he'll be in my midnight, that means 2am at the earliest. I love my man but damn he can't tell time!!
you forgot
THE MAN COLD
meaning when a woman has the flu (cold) she is just sick, when a man has the flu he is DYING!!!
What a great list. I to got married at a young age also. But I don't regret it all, I get to spend my entire life with this one man!
I loved #2 as Donnie now has the summer off as a principal and is farming and he can't stop complaining about the heat and hard work!
I have learned that sometimes you just can't please the men and you just need to let them be.
Have a great Tuesday!
#6 is totally me and my husband. he has stopped answering my questions because he knows i will always pick the one he didnt. :) not on purpose, of course.
hey i got married young too. at 19. today is our anniversary, 8 years and still going strong!!!
I love this list, because The Truth is always enjoyable. ;-)
And as far as #4 goes, I have embraced it whole heartedly, since it means my turn staying out all day comes afterward! Fair is fair, man!
Thank you, sensei. Wax on, wax off.
Cute post! It is good to learn and admit that you've learned something in your marriage.
Your hubby gets the great hubby award for romance.
Boys are so fun when they get hooked on things like trucks and airplanes because we see them almost everyday and the excitement gets fueled. Fun days!
