How To Hunt a Turtle

Step 1: Head to your favorite turtle hunting haunt. You must coast to a stop, as to not frighten the turtles. Collect your supplies.

Step 2: SNEAK (very important) up on the turtles. Although they appear slow, they can be quite quick when in water.

Step 3: Grab a big, dead branch off a tree. This will be used to lure the turtles. You place it in the water and the turtles will climb on it to sun themselves.
Step 4: Realize you lost the branch by throwing it too far in the water. FAIL.

Step 5: Remove loud brother from the scene.

Step 6: Find another big branch trip hauling it and biff it haul to water.

Step 7: Lie in wait. They will come. You will conquer.
By yours truly who is the only person with a blog who does not have any ability to crop/retouch photos, so you get the raw images here. See? otherwise those bags under my eyes would be gone.

A boy's dreams

My son Elijah is always full of these crazy ideas, like raising money ($1,000 to be exact) so he can build a pond and turtle barn (yes, a turtle breeding barn) in the backyard. While Corey and I believe in supporting our child's dreams, we draw the line at shelling a thousand big ones to build a turtle barn. Also, we've noticed his proposals all have that "pyramid scheme" ring to them. So, we told him he had to come up with some ideas to earn the money. Some of his ideas have included:
-having people collect rocks and pay Elijah $1 per rock
- take people out in the woods on a nature walk- $6.00 per walk
- sell seashells
-sell pictures of dinosaurs
-asking his grandpa, grandma, auntie, and anyone he meets on the street for a loan
- a lemonade stand

Core and I decided the safest was the lemonade stand. So, today we set up shop at the end of the driveway. About 15 cars passed by with... nothing. Elijah was starting to tear up when a kindly neighbor stopped by for a cool drink.
He did really well, but was a bit disappointed when the next hour proved fruitless. At the end of the day, he did end up making $8.85 on the lemonade stand (admittedly, Grandpa did buy $6.85 worth of lemonade)
So- what is he going to do with his $8.85?  He decided to buy the wolly mammoth toy he's been admiring at Target. After all, like he told me, "I can always have another lemonade stand tomorrow."
At least Corey and I don't have to worry about breeding turtles just yet.
