And? I haven't talked about running in a l-o-n-g time, have I? (just go with me on this, okay?)
I have been running! I want to run a marathon at the end of May and have been gearing up (and by gearing up, I mean by running and buying lots of new gear). I think I need a workout clothes buying intervention (so, saying this? I can't tell whether it is a good or bad thing that I am a member of our District Intervention Leadership Team and teaching a course to teachers on interventions. I'll give myself a pass though, because I really needed those new skirts and stuff, right? Who wants to see me running all ugly like? No one.)
I have also been working out with a trainer to strengthen my core, legs, arms, bum, calves, forearms, forehead, fingers... you get the picture. Has it been helping? Yes. But painfully. She hurts me with her heavy weights and plyometric moves. I told her Monday that if I do another burpee or mountain climber I am not responsible for my actions after. (Of course, after I realized what an idle threat that was. I am so wiped after doing them that any actions I could do would be pretty lame.)
Moving on... yes, the training has helped. I am running faster and feeling stronger. However, I did my 18 mile run on Sunday and felt good the first 16 miles, but the last 2 were a pain. Two days later my knees are still a bit achy. Kind of p*'s me off, because I want to come out strong and do not want to have to deal with the pain at the end of the run. I am hoping the next long run feels better - much better - to help set my mind at ease.
Otherwise? All is well. I'll be back again soon, maybe even with pictures of my cute new workout clothes. Right now? I need a major dose of advil- STAT.

Cute new workout clothes always make the running go easier. I think you're going to be feeling just fine (and smoking HAWT) come your marathon with all the strength training thrown in there. I know I'd be more consistent with a drill sargent getting after me.
I love new workout clothes. They motivate me to go to the gym. I've got a gift card to Sports Authority just waiting for after I give birth, so I can spruce up the wardrobe and get myself motivated to get back to the gym!
I would love to get a trainer, but I know I'd end up loathing her! ;-)
blogging has missed YOU too! i slogged through a four mile run today and was hurting. i've been off lately :( i'm hoping to start up with some strength training in august, so i'm glad to hear you say it's helping with your running. goodness knows MY running needs some help!!! maybe i need to invest in some sassy and cute running gear...will it help my overall time?!?! mnaybe that's my problem. my body is rebelling against the ugly tshirts and shorts that i run in!
I could use some new workout clothes. Always fun. Sounds like a great plan to add lots of strength training in. I hate burpees and mountain climbers, but boy are they a good workout. I hope your next long run feels better. Are you going at them with any specific strategy? I always found starting slower and going for negative splits helped...
Wow Sara, I've never run more than 6 miles, that's crazy mileage! Good for you for the new workout clothes, I go years wearing the same grubby stuff until it hits me I should just invest in a few new pieces.
I'm impressed by your running!
I want to be (sorta) like you! I had not run in years...at least seven, and I decided one day to just go out and do it. I've done it three times, and although I'm slow and my endurance is pitiful, I can tell I am getting better. I am going to buy new shoes Friday to help with my plantar fasciitis and maybe I'll be able to run even better. Pedometer has been shipped too! You're such an inspiration...
Ha! I spend more money on running clothes and shoes than I do my normal ones ;)
Glad you're still running, it's a lifesaver for me.
xo
I have fallen far behind on any kind of work out. But this weekend I started taking steps to building myself back up! Good luck! Enjoy the new clothes :-)

I don't think I could ever do a marathon -- maybe someday a half, but yea never a full one.
I hate burpees!
You're amazing girl! And I'm glad you're back to blogging. I've missed you!
